Tinmel is a small mountain village in the High Atlas 105 km from Marrakesh, Morocco. Tinmel was the cradle of the Berber Almohad empire, from where the Almohads started their military campaigns against the Almoravids in the early 12th century.

Ouirgane has a souq noted for its Berber pottery the Tin Mal Mosque, a ruined kasbah, and several salt mines in the vicinity. Overnight in a simple berber village, prior to descent down the valley to get ouirgane which is your final destination. Those two day trek are great trek option which allow you to discover very scenic places, discover the daily life of the berbers.

Itinerary

Day 1: Marrakech – Tahnaout – Asni – Ouirgane – Tinmel Mosque
Start from marrakech at 9h00 for a pleasante drive south winding our way up through the Moulay Brahim gorge and upper valleys to arrive at the higher foothills of the western high atlas mountains and our trailhead of Ouirgane for couple mint tea and then continu driving to Tinmel Mosque, 2h30 driving. The Mosque is a mosque located in the High Atlas mountains of North Africa. It was built in 1156 to commemorate the founder of the Almohad dynasty. A great hike around and back to Marrakech at about 17h00.
