This 8-day trip starts and ends in Marrakech, with the option to extend your holiday in the Atlas Mountains to explore more of Morocco’s remote beauty. Unlike the better-known Toubkal region, this journey takes you into a landscape shaped by typical sedimentary rock formations, with dramatic escarpments, long ridgelines, and deep gorges carved by rivers flowing through softer stone as the young fold mountains rose over time. The focus of this trek is the Jebel Saghro, a striking mountain range situated between the High Atlas and the Sahara Desert, considered the eastern extension of the High Anti-Atlas. This is a region of powerful contrasts, where one moment, you’re walking beneath date palms or almond groves nourished by ancient wells, and the next, you’re crossing barren rocky plateaus that stretch out into wild, open space. The Saghro Mountains are remote and untamed, with only a handful of small Berber villages hinting at human presence. This is also the land of the Ait Atta nomads, whose way of life has remained unchanged for generations. Perfect for adventurous travellers seeking a genuine off-the-beaten-path experience, this trek offers incredible geological variety, cultural encounters, and a deep sense of peace in the heart of Morocco’s wilderness.
